From the Phone to the Canvas

August 17th, 2010 · Uncategorized

What’s great about the Paint Joy app for Android (best painting app for Android in my opinion) is that it allows you to sketch in full color anywhere you are, with zero mess or wasted materials. Great way to test out colors and composition before putting anything on canvas!

This is the first painting that has made it from my pocket to the studio wall.

Phone art plums

Created using Paint Joy app on HTC Evo 4g

Plums acrylic on canvas 16x20 in. yellow and green

"Plums 1" - 16x20 in. acrylic on canvas - $750

If you’re an iPhone user, there is an app you can download called “Brushes” which I think is pretty similar.

Portrait of Za'keya

"Za'keya" - 8x8 in. Acrylic on canvas

Za’keya is a young girl from Detroit, MI that my wife hangs out with. Amazingly talented vocalist, actor, dancer, writer. I very much admire who she is and who she’s becoming.

Portrait of girl by water

"Julia" - 11x14 in. Acrylic on canvas

portrait of young boy Joey

"Joey" - 11x14 in. Acrylic on canvas

My wife and I spent a week in Boston, MA recently babysitting these kids while their parents (friends of ours) were in Israel. They were a ton of fun to hang out with. Julia is 4 years old, Joey is 1. Julia and I painted together a couple times. She’s very talented, and she knows it. When we told her she would be a great artist someday she set us straight:  “I already am an artist, and I’m really good.”

Back from hiatus

June 7th, 2010 · Uncategorized

I took a brief hiatus from making new work so I could focus on getting married. See proof below.

The wedding was pretty amazing. I am a very proud husband of my wife, Laura.

Now that we’ve been back to normal life for about a month, and I’ve cleared out a lot of old paintings that I’ve been storing for years (thanks to everyone who bought stuff from the Studio Sale!) I’m back to making new work.

Currently working on some portraits and basically getting my new studio space set up. It’s currently the studio/dump-and-ditch room in our new home. Trying to transform it into more studio, less dump-and-ditch.

New work up shortly. Thanks for stopping by.
